    Christina Hilken (12)

Christina created ‘Best Friends’ at home in Wolverhampton.

Christina has always loved to draw since she could first grasp a crayon, and our house is filled with her pictures. She has been to various workshops at the Barber Institute in Birmingham and Wolverhampton Art Gallery, and has been helped along the way by local artist Ruth Radcliffe as well as the various art technique books she has devoured.

Her favourite medium is pencil, used to capture the light, shade and texture of the subjects.

The dog was almost completely black, so Christina had to emphasis the shine and contrast on it’s fur in the picture.

She used a range of pencils from HB to 6B.

This is my best friend Anna and her lovely black Labrador puppy Lilly. Anna adores her so much so that I wanted to capture their trusting, affectionate and caring relationship, and how much Anna loves spending time with Lilly in a sketch.
