The main aim of #Sheepselfie was to encourage two young groups of artists, Usher Young Creatives (UYC) and University of Lincoln’s National Art & Design Saturday Club (NADSC), to collaborate and engage with their local community; share their artistic ideas and explore those of others. Thirty three young people took part in the project.
Ali (leader of the University of Lincoln’s NADSC) was inspired by Judith Hopf”s Flock of Sheep when she visited the Liverpool Biennale in 2014. The work of artist Tejo Remy also inspired her to want to use the material concrete with the group. She met Alice (leader of UYC) briefly during an art event led by The Collection and Usher Gallery in 2014 and thought it would be an opportune moment for both groups to collaborate.
The groups were able to use the Art & Design workshops, University of Lincoln to create, and then ‘tour’, their concrete sheep, helped by tutors and graduates from the university, and staff from The Collection and Usher Gallery.
